Clean Rooms & Clean Shop

Charles Thompson Ltd has unrivalled knowledge in the design and fabrication of special materials, with clean room and clean workshop facilities on site to ensure they are handled properly.

The clean room facility is currently being extended to increase capacity up to 432m2

Metals and materials include:

  • Stainless Steel
  • Titanium
  • Tantalum
  • Zirconium
  • Molybdenum
  • Nickel
  • Nickel Alloys
  • Duplex
  • Super Duplex
  • Cupro Nickel
  • Clad materials combinations

Charles Thompson boasts one of the UK’s largest purpose-built clean rooms and clean workshops to suit the requirements of certain materials, including Nickel Alloys and reactive metals.

The clean room is kept slightly above atmospheric pressure and, by using clean, filtered air, contamination from dust and impurities from neighbouring facilities are prevented. The clean shop, under pressure, prevents the contamination of materials being fabricated.

Charles Thompson guarantees to maintain the strength ductility and corrosion resistance of the parent material by using weld procedures which have been specifically designed to prevent contamination from atmospheric gasses, cross contamination from other materials, dust and dirt.

Air sampling in the clean room is monitored using Ferroxyl testing.

Reactive Metals and Alloy Fabrication

Charles Thompson’s Corrosion Resistant Metal and Alloy department encompasses all three operating divisions of the company:

  • Packaged process systems
  • Filtration and drying equipment
  • Pressure vessels and heat exchangers

One of the company’s eight clean workshops is dedicated to Nickel Alloys. It has a lifting capacity of 60 tonnes and has been instrumental in the manufacture of vessels and columns up to 4500mm diameter by 25000mm tan/tan.
